Next Generation Voting App for US Elections
Background
This was a 4 week long contract I completed back in 2017 for Deloitte and the United States Postal Service (US Federal Government). My involvement was doing all of the User Experience, and User Interface from scratch, and handing off multiple iterations of a high-fidelity clickable prototype to the clients.
Goal
Increase participation in democracy with a next generation voting technology, with a historic 2020 United States presidential election on the horizon
Metrics
Increase voter turnout > 60%
The app should be compliant in all 50 states
Problem
Of the 250,056,000 eligible voters in the United States, only 55.7% voted in 2016
User
3 primary user segments targeted: In-Person Explorers, Hybrid Hopefuls, and Digital-Savvy Skeptics
Design Constraints
Must overcome perceived security concerns
Must be compliant in all 50 states
Utilize 9 months of UX research
Deliver multiple iterations of a high fidelity clickable prototype in a 4 week UI/UX sprint
Research Used
The solution leveraged 9 months of user research done by Deloitte which mapped regulatory constraints as well as the entire voter experience
Project success
Multiple high-fidelity clickable prototypes that met all of the compliance criteria of the US legal system to allow voting to be done digitally were completed, and the project advanced to front-end and back-end development
